I adopted the Internal Family System therapy and trained in its usage as it offers two things that I strongly value in therapy: complexity and clarity. But possibly more important than that is the results it offers. Internal Family System therapy sees the individual as a complete dynamic family of sub-personalities. In the research on IFS and in my practice, it has consistently delivered the healing that my clients seek.
Internal Family Systems is fast becoming one of the world’s most dynamic therapy movements. It offers a clear and coherent map of the complexities of the mind. People who experience IFS therapy discover a harmonious, tranquil inner presence that anchors them in compassion and positivity towards themselves and others. IFS addresses challenging behaviours with a refreshingly positive and understanding approach.
Quotes:
“any approach that increases your inner drill sergeant’s impulse to shame you into behaving will do no better than when parents adopt shaming tactics to control their children” (Paraphrased)
Richard C. Schwartz, No Bad Parts: Healing Trauma and Restoring Wholeness with the Internal Family Systems Model
“Genuine feelings cannot be produced, nor can they be eradicated… the body sticks to the facts.” –Alice Miller

the body sticks to the facts.’
I have worked extensively in the trauma field and have a keen appreciation of the effect of trauma in people’s lives. I see great value in identifying the themes, feelings, body sensation and thoughts that my clients experience as a result of past experiences. I work with my clients to gain an embodied awareness of their burdens and guide them through a process in which they feel able to release their unwanted tension.
I don’t require a history lesson about your childhood traumas, the focus is on how YOU currently carry your childhood experience.
‘You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.’
– Maya Angelou
‘ I believe the key to healing is not just knowing what happened but transforming how the mind, body, and soul still remember it’
– Janina Fisher
As a psychodynamic therapist I believe that the “here-and-now” of the therapy hour is to be experienced, explored and reflected upon. The ability to articulate difficult thoughts, emotions and ‘stay with’ and not fear painful feelings, allows people to move forward through the pain into peace of mind and optimism for the future.
I see the relationship between me and me my clients as the vehicle of change. I seek to provide my clients with a corrective-emotional experience where they can be part of a connected relationship characterised by mutual respect, authenticity, healthy boundaries, as well as compassion and collaboration and accurate empathy.
The act of revealing oneself fully to another and still being accepted may be the major vehicle of therapeutic help.
– Irvin D. Yalom
‘ Inviting our thoughts and feelings into awareness allows us to learn from them rather than be driven by them.
– Daniel J. Siegel, Mindsight: The New Science of Personal Transformation
I am trained in EMDR and call upon its magic to process acute traumatic events.

“Say yes to the feelings, even as you say no to the behavior.”
